What You Will Learn:
Join us for an exciting session on best practices and practical tips for RNA sequencing, brought to you by Lexogen and BigOmics Analytics.
- Part 1: RNA Sequencing Methods
Dr. Yvonne Goepel, Head of Product Management and Marketing at Lexogen, will outline key consideration for RNA-Seq experimental design and provide a clear overview of the most widely used RNA sequencing approaches: 3’ mRNA-Seq and whole transcriptome sequencing. - Part 2: Hands-On Data Analysis
Axel Martinelli, Ph.D., Head of Biology at BigOmics, will showcase the Omics Playground tool — a cloud-based platform designed to simplify and accelerate RNA-seq data analysis. He will walk you through practical examples, including a comparison of a public dataset analyzing differential gene expression, gene set enrichment and pathway analysis using 3’ mRNA-Seq and whole transcriptome sequencing on the same samples. - Part 3: The Power of Replicates and Controls
Dr. Goepel will summarize the finding with some tips on how to choose the fitting method for your experiment, and emphasize the importance of replicates and controls in ensuring reliable and reproducible RNA sequencing results.
Abstract
Join us for a hands-on webinar where we’ll walk through some of the most common challenges in RNA-Seq experiments and why good experimental design matters more than ever. We’ll introduce two key RNA sequencing approaches — whole transcriptome and 3′ mRNA sequencing — and show you how they stack up during a live demo using Omics Playground, our cloud-based, plug-and-play data analysis platform.
Using a real-world RNA-Seq dataset, we’ll compare the results from both methods and explore which one might be the best fit for your research goals. We’ll also talk about the importance of choosing the right controls and replicates — and how those decisions can make or break your experiment. Whether you’re new to RNA-Seq or looking to sharpen your design strategy, this session will give you practical insights you can apply right away.

Axel Martinelli, Ph.D.
Head of Biology, BigOmics
Axel Martinelli’s academic background is in molecular biology and parasitology. He earned a Ph.D. on the genetics of strain-specific immunity against malaria infections and a master’s degree in bioinformatics with specialization in the analysis of omics data. During his postdoctoral career, he worked on genomics and transcriptomics studies and is currently the head of biology at Bigomics Analytics.

Dr. Yvonne Goepel
Head of Product Management and Marketing, Lexogen
Yvonne earned her doctorate in Microbiology from the University of Göttingen’s Graduate School for Neurosciences and Molecular Biosciences, where she studied regulatory RNAs in bacteria. She continued her research as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Vienna, focusing on non-coding RNAs and regulated RNA turnover. Yvonne later joined Lexogen as a Research Scientist, applying her expertise in molecular RNA biology to develop innovative RNA-Seq methods and kits that support researchers worldwide. Today, she leads Lexogen’s Marketing and Product Management teams, driving innovation as part of The RNA Experts.
