On Tuesday, March 15, 2016 the webinar “Gene Expression Analysis Using 3’-RNA Sequencing” took place. This was a great success. We had 583 attendees registered.
Dr. Behnam Abasht from the University of Delaware had a 50 minutes talk and multiple questions afterwards. It was a pleasure to observe how much interest 3’ mRNA-Seq currently has.
3’ mRNA-Seq allowed Dr. Abasht to perform gene expression studies at population level in an extremely cost efficient manner. The correlation of the log10(fold-change) for gene expression data obtained with a standard RNA-Seq and 3’ mRNA-Seq was 0.90. Moreover, with this method he could also verify the current gene model annotations and perform global characterization of alternative polyadenylation. Dr. Abasht used QuantSeq 3’ mRNA-Seq Library Prep Kit developed by Lexogen, which is the only protocol available on the market for this application.
