The Lexogen Research Award – “High quality from low quality: Accurate gene expression profiling of low quality or FFPE samples“ provides the chance for researchers to utilize next-generation sequencing for gene expression profiling studies with challenging samples. Most RNA-Seq sample preparation protocols available in the market are only efficient when used for high quality input RNA. One of the unique features of the QuantSeq 3’ mRNA-Seq Library Prep Kit is that this technology is well suited for library preparation from RNA of variable quality. Hence, Research Award applicants were invited to submit project proposals where they would use QuantSeq for studying RNAs extracted from degraded or formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples.
The prize for the Research Award winners includes a QuantSeq 3’ mRNA-Seq Library Prep Kit for 96 samples, 1 sequencing run on an Illumina NextSeq 500 with 75 bp single reads, and sequencing data analysis provided by the Lexogen NGS facility.
We received many project proposals from applicants from different parts of the world and diverse fields of research, all with the great ideas for application of the QuantSeq technology. It was not easly to choose just 3 winners. With the great help of two external judges, Dr. Carlos Cruchaga, Associate Professor at Washington University (St. Louis, USA), and Dr. Michael Wilson, Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto (Canada), we are ready to announce the final winners list:
